Outdoor and Hiking in Mentone - Desoto Falls and Little River Canyon

This is one of the few public places in town get a good view from the brow of Lookout Mountain.  Enjoy a picnic lunch from under one of the covered pavilions, and be sure to catch a sunset! 

Shady Grove offers trail rides to see Desoto Falls.  All experience levels welcome!  Make sure to call ahead of time to book a reservation.

Desoto Falls is one of the tallest waterfalls in Alabama with a span of 107 feet.  There are hiking trails that will take you to the basin where you can swim, to the top to a viewing and picnic area, or to a nearby lookout point to see the view pictured above.  Desoto Falls is just minutes from the cabin!

DeSoto State Park is a public recreation area located on Lookout Mountain and just minutes from the cabin.  The state park covers 3,502 acres of forest, rivers, waterfalls, and mountain terrain. It borders the Little River, which flows into the nearby Little River Canyon National Preserve.  

Located at DeSoto State Park, Screaming Eagle features thrilling zip lines and aerial adventure! Enjoy stunning scenery, thrilling ziplines and some crazy fun suspension bridges as you hike through the trees. See views of the park that can’t be seen from the ground! 

Take the paved walkway to the Little River Falls overlook or hike to a refreshing swimming hole!  Little River Canyon spans about 15,000 acres and the hiking opportunities are endless!  If you want a lower-impact trip, take the canyon scenic drive!

Lil Mole Run Golf Course is an 18-hole PAR 71 golf course with all gas golf carts, a lakeside picnic pavilion, and clubhouse.
